I fabricated a rack for the last eight cells. The last rack is installed, and I am relieved that I got all 60 of the cells to fit in the car.

Battery Boxes, part 8
To figure out the final configuration of the motor compartment, I cut out a plywood template and placed it above the motor and the two lower battery boxes. This allows me to move the components around to find a configuration where everything fits. I also need to consider the rotation and flex of the motor under load, to ensure that the motor terminals do not short circuit. I settled on this configuration:
The controller is on the left and the battery charger is on the right.

Battery Racks, part 7
Three battery boxes are completed –the two pictured here and the rack in the front.
A view from under the the car.
I have 8 cells left and they will be the most challenging to fit. Along with the last of the cells, I still need to fit the controller, radiator, charger, brake pump, 12 volt battery and DC-DC convertor (for charging the 12 volt battery from the main pack).
